30th April: Saving Lives at Sea

The BBC’S “Saving Lives at Sea ” programme annoys me because normally you would hardly know that the Coastguard are involved in a rescue, let alone National Coastwatch – the RNLI appears to do everything!

However the episode broadcast on 30th April actually featured NCI Hengistbury Head in the rescue of a kayaker. They guided the RNLI Mudeford Lifeboat to the casualty. The whole episode is presently available on iPlayer… – view from 29m40s to 43m00s to see the role of NCI in the rescue. Well done RNLI Mudeford Lifeboat and NCI Hengistbury Head in getting a more balanced view of a rescue broadcast!
