8th May: St Barbe Museum

A random Facebook post alerted me to an exhibition at the St Barbe Museum and Art gallery in Lymington. “Ancient Sites from the Air” is the work of David R. Abram and featured large photographic composites showing ancient site with the time of day, and hence the lighting, chosen to accentuate the texture of the monuments. By coincidence a number featured places I’ve visited in the past… Grimes Graves in Norfolk, Barclodiad y Gawres chambered tomb on Anglesey (which Nicky and I had the chance to sleep in but chickened out), and, of course, Stonehenge.

Luckily I got to the exhibition before a party of school children arrived.  The noise from them, plus general hubbub from the cafe, drove me outside to the rather cool terrace for a coffee and “cake of the day”…even the waitress commentated how noisy it was.   I bought the book… I later found it was £10 cheaper on Amazon, but my purchase will have benefitted the Museum, and I’ve got a signed copy!
