August 16th: Cowes Week Photos – Windy Again!

Friday, 16th August was another windy day with bad weather forecast for the afternoon. Most races were held on short courses and there was a lot of action close to the south cardinal mark buoy which marks the end of Lepe Spit. One yacht’s red spinnaker was blown out whilst another appeared to have lost its foresail over the bow. On another yacht a crew member was hoisted up the mast for running repairs – rather him than me!

In the afternoon the weather closed in as forecast. Visibility was poor and, with the racing over, at NCI Stone Point we only had a lone wind surfer to watch. At first we were puzzled because he kept falling in but each time made a skilled recovery. We later learnt from his father and coach that he was an army competition wind surfer practicing a new, faster turn method.
