24th June: Photo Album

Had to let Sand Heron go up the Itchen (photo [1]) before raising sails. RRS James Cook was coming in [2]. A new dredger to me was the Prins der Nederlanden near the Coronation buoy [4][5][6]. The mainsail on the Cornish Crabber [7] has provision for some serious reefing! Bluebox Sailing [9][10] does sailing experience days out of the Hamble – a bit light wind for them today. Running unballasted under the asymmetric [8] near Browndown Battery I was out pacing the nearer yacht in photo [14] but not the furthest one! Then off Portsmouth [16] it became a game of dodge the ferries [15][20][22][23][24] both on my way out and back. The Wightlink ones seem to go faster than the Red Funnel ones out of Southampton and they come in pairs! Motored back from No Mans Land Fort [19] and cut inshore near Gosport [25][26] to dodge the current. The motored home. Contrast the Cruise Ship [28] with the Liner [29]. I was surprised to see the Alison MacGregor coming out of the Hamble [30] and she seemed to chase me before turning for Hythe. Maybe Bob Eaton (SRCMBC) was at the wheel!
