Cowes Day 2: Cape 31’s return from the western Solent
On Sunday 31st July, the second day of the 2022 Cowes Week regatta, the combination of grey weather, a long telephoto lens, and predominantly black or dark sails resulted in some grainy images! I have separated out the photos of IRC Classes tacking upwind towards to western Solent, and of the Cape 31’s as they back raced down wind going eastwards past Lepe.
The Cape 31 is a 31 foot one-design designed in 2017 by Mark Mills for racing at Cape Town, South Africa, but now becoming popular in the Solent. It can plane downwind at 20 plus knots. It has a 10 foot beam, 8 foot draft, and a 15hp inboard auxiliary engine.
