8th & 9th June: More D-Day 80 events
Events connected to the D-Day 80 Anniversary continued. On Saturday 8th June there was a Military themed “Family Fun Day” in Lepe Country Park. I did the morning watch at NCI Stone Point before going to Exbury for John Stanley’s Junkers Walk. At home afterwards I got a phone call from the station saying that there was a yacht aground on Lepe Spit but, as there was nothing to be done before the return of the tide, they were closing the station as normal.
On Sunday 9th June there was a Memorial Service at the Anchor War Memorial in Lepe Country Park. I was not on watch until midday so the Service had finished when I arrived. However we had the Hampshire Caledonian Pipe Band were playing outside the Station for the first part of our watch!
