16th April: Seatern for Sale

Front of Brochure

So, I have finally given in and decided to sell Seatern.  I have enjoyed having her but since getting covid back in March 2022 I have never felt as fit as I used to be. Call it “long covid” or “post viral syndrome”, whatever, I just don’t have the energy.  Over previous years I enjoyed having Seatern both for sailing, and as a place to spend nights on the water even though she was at my jetty.  However the latter stopped when the house next door became an Air B’nB and visitors would be out in the garden making noise late into the night.  I retreated behind the “sound-proof” bedroom window in my house. That was March 2021.

She is advertised at £19,500 which seems high compared to the basic price quoted by Swallow Yachts for, say, a new BC21 (which is the successor to the Bayraider Expedition).  However you have to add on all the “extras”, both fitted by them and needed for using the boat.  These include necessities like VHF radio, mooring lines, fenders, an anchor, etc.  She is fully equipped for cruising and is probably unique amongst Baycruiser 20’s being designed to allow the mast to be easily lowered and raised whilst under way.  I reckon Seatern cost me around £50,000 when I had her built and equipped her.

Brochure side 2

I spent the last couple of weeks cleaning Seatern up and checking all the gear still works.  I was impressed at how well she has kept and that everything did work!  No reason that it shouldn’t, but it is still nice that it does.  Yesterday (15th) I put the outboard back on her and it started at about the 3rd pull;  it had been in the shed since being serviced back in July 2024 so I thought it might take a bit of coaxing.  I did use brand new petrol (the lower alcohol E5) and now I’ll have to keep running it occasionally until sold.

I’m selling her through Swallow Yachts who asked for a detailed Inventory.  They also specified the photos they would like for the Brochure.  Here are the ones which I sent to them.  They are all recent (8th to 10th April 2025) and have not been retouched.
