18th Apr: BDMLR & Palais des Vaches

I was booked for a covid booster vaccination, a new batch of NCI trifold leaflets needed collecting from the printer, the British Divers Marine Life Rescue organisation were training at Lepe, and I wanted to see the exhibition of music photos at the Palais des Vaches gallery, so I decided to combine them all!

The BDMLR training was interesting,  what I saw was mainly training on how not to get bitten by a seal pup,  and how to refloat a stranded dolphin.  The inflatable dolphin (or porpoise?) used was clearly heavy and looked realistic although I imagine more cooperative than the real thing!  These are the photos I put on the Calshot Blog:

I wasn’t sure about the music photos at Palais des Vaches.  There were some very good photos but I think I was distracted by the prices being asked!  I got to talk to the photographer, Zoe Wilson, mainly about the process.  Original 35mm slide were digitised and then printed on various media, either as one off’s or limited editions.  The result is advertised as museum-grade fine art.

Somehow I don’t think I would be able to bring myself to pay as much for a digital photo image as I might for a painting.  But I suppose they are no different from limited edition prints, and the photos were good!  I might have bought  the book but at £150 how often would I look at it?!
