10th Jan.: New NCI “Blog”

At the end of last year, as my arm pain was getting less, and the start of this year I spent quite a bit of time reformatting the NCI Calshot and Stone Point “Blog”.  The Blog is a wordpress site which was, before the advent of an official NCI website, the website for NCI Calshot.  When I took over as web administrator I thought it best to develop the Calshot pages on the official site, rather than continue with our own separate website.

However there was lots of posts on the old wordpress site which made it seem worth continuing it as an informal publishing site for NCI Calshot.  Perhaps unwisely I called it the “NCI Calshot Blog”.  I’ve since discovered that the name puts some people off because the think of it as a social media site.

Until now the home page simply displayed the last few posts published and, although I’d imposed a category structure on the posts, I had the impression that few people used the “Search by Category” facility to look back at older posts.

In the new blog the posts are organised into categories and sub-categories and the home page features links to those, rather than the latest posts. Hopefully this will encourage people to look back at previous posts, at least it will make previous posts easier to find.

The new Blog was announced in the NCI Calshot Bulletin for 10th January and was well received, at least amongst the station Committee!
