17th August: Refitting Spray Hood
I’m slowly getting Seatern to look more presentable. Having careened Seatern around the 2nd July much of that month was taken up with a combination of NCI events and Cowes Week etc. However I did manage to Boracol the wood on the starboard side and with in the cockpit and cabin top. I removed the spray hood and after a “gentle” clean with the power washer, used a scrubbing brush and Renovo canvas cleaner (500ml of which I still have a small amount left after I got fed up with scrubbing!).
Some more of the stitching was giving way. Last time I used Jeremy Pascoe to restitch it but he is no longer at Kemps, so I used Sails of Merit at Dyers. She, (Sarah Liscoe?), told me to phone on the Monday (12th August) to arrange a time to bring the cover in, then fixed it all within a couple of hours.
I refitted the spray hood on Saturday (17th August) and painted it with Fabsil. To my surprise, one litre was just enough for the whole cover, I was expecting it to be not quite enough!
The varnish on the companionway wash boards had badly deteriorated so I sanded them down and painted them. I’m using some colour matched Barn Paint which, although not a “boat finish”, I suspect will last better than the varnish. I used the same paint in repairing the area near the anchor locker hatch which had become badly chipped (for obvious reasons).
Most of the mottled effect on the teak in the photos is due to it having spotted rain just before I took them.
