7th Feb 2018: Walk along the River Hamble

I’d had a message that my outboard, “Dai”, had been serviced and was ready to be collected from the Rib Shop at Eastlands Boatyard. On the way I decided to stop off at Swanwick car park (by the public hard) and walk along the Hamble River bank path towards Warsash. It really is a lovely path, mostly running along an embankment with the river one side and salt marshes the other.

Unlike going up the river by boat, on the path all the moored yachts are some distance away and don’t dominate the views. Wrecks of old hulks lie in the mud and flocks of waders rise from the marshes. I walked until I’d gone past Port Hamble marina (on the other bank) but then turned back because I was aware I’d be walking into the cold north wind. Back at Swanwick I had a coffee in the Ship Inn to warm up before picking up Dai.
