3rd June: D-Day Memorial Service

On Monday 3rd June the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guard’s Memorial Service took place In Lepe Country Park.  It is an annual event held in remembrance of the Regiment’s embarkation at Lepe in preparation for the D-Day landings. Because of the bad weather forecast for the 5th, the landings were delayed and the troops had to endure a day in the Solent which can’t have been pleasant, although nothing compared to what was to come.

A veteran of the D-Day landings on 6th June 1944,  Cecil Newton, attended the Ceremony and had a wreath laid on his behalf.  I took some photos at the ceremony before standing watch at Stone Point in the afternoon.
