Agra: Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri is about 36 km west of Agra. It was founded as the capital of the Mughal Empire in 1571 by the Emperor Akbar but only served in that role until 1585 and was abandoned by 1610. The most striking building was the white marble Tomb of Salim Chishti, a Sufi saint. The walls feature intricately carved marble screens.
