Delhi: Humayun’s Tomb, Lodhi Gardens, Raj Ghat

Humayun’s Tomb: The tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun is now a World Heritage Site. Built in 1569-1570 it was one of the the first garden tombs on the Indian subcontinent (Wikipedia). I think it was in the surrounding gardens that extensive restoration work was being undertaken.

Lodhi Gardens: The meeting venue, the India Meteorological Department, was situated near the Lodhi Gardens where there were several ancient tombs. The Bara Gumbad (“big dome”) was constructed in 1490 and is thought to the earliest full dome of any building in Delhi. The Shish Gumbad (“glazed dome”) is thought to date to around 1500.

Raj Ghat: The Raj Ghat has a Memorial marking the spot of Mahatma Gandhi’s cremation. It is in the form of a simple marble plinth with an eternal flame burning at one end and flower wreaths placed upon it. Originally the area was an historic ghat of Old Delhi. Other Memorials are located nearby.
