Oct. 1994: Texas to New Mexico
A road trip in October 1994 from Paradise, Texas, as far west as Gallup, New Mexico, and back to Dallas-Fort Worth in Texas for the flight home.
During the trip we kept brief daily notes. There are not many photos. Before Taos on day four the camera was not working. Once it was repaired, Nicky was taking photos in black and white, while, in those days, I tended not to carry a camera on my trips. However we saved some mementos; postcards, pamphlets, and the like.
Nicky, who had trained at West Surrey College of Art and Design and Chelsea School of Art, wanted to see some of the places in New Mexico associated with Georgia O’Keefe while I was interested to see the Indian pueblos and cliff dwellings. At the time I was caving and therefore keen to see the Carlsbad Caverns. Thus our general aim was defined, with the actual route taken decided day by day as we went along.
